We recently had the opportunity to catch an amazing night at the NAU store in NYC. Without a doubt, bicycles had a heavy presence.  There was a line spoken through that mic, that has had me day dreamin ever since.

“Imagine a day of everyone just riding bicycles”

Just a brief though, a moment of this vision, blew me away. I was lost in my imagination. The world we know would be at a quiet peaceful halt.

Riding my bike to our office doesnt make me any better than all the communters I am flying by, stuck in one massive line of traffic. I too have been in those same shoes many times before.

But it is mind blowing. I can enjoy my morning, breathe somewhat fresh air, and stimulate all  . While “Larry” sits stuck in traffic for 2 hours sippin on his cup of Jo’. All to travel 20 miles. Have you ever wondered what drinking bean, sitting on your ass and being stressed out all morning, cause you aint movin, does to yourself! I give massive thanks for my bike , everyday!

Many of us live to protect the environment. Big Up for doing this, but here is a little opener of what we are really loving and living with.

The word environment is defined as, the external conditions or surroundings, esp those in which people live or work. This really means a world seperate from ourselves, outside us. The real state of things, of course , is far more complext and intimate and interesting than that. It truly is the world that environs us, that is around us, and also within us. We are made of it, we eat, drink, and breathe it. It is bone of our bone,  and flesh of our flesh.

A creation mystery. This world this creation belongs in a limitied sense to us, for we may rightfully requre certain things of it – the things necessary to keep us fully alive as the kind of creature we are – but we belong to it, and it makes certain rightful claims on us : that we care properly care for it, the we leave it undiminished not just to our children but to all the creatures that will live in it after us.

None of this is converyed by the word environment.

Remeber what gives us life everday. The World that environs us! Enjoy and Respect!

Rocky Dawuni’s Hymns for the Rebel Soul Available Exclusively at Whole Foods Markets
New CD Hits Stores Nationwide

Los Angeles, CA October 15, 2009 – International music sensation Rocky Dawuni’s highly anticipated new CD, Hymns for the Rebel Soul, is being exclusively released by Whole Foods Markets.

Dawuni describes the 11-song album, which was recorded during the recent transformative U.S. Presidential election, as an uplifting exploration of social and global consciousness.  The music was crafted to reflect the common spiritual, political and social aspirations felt by people around the world.  Hymns of the Rebel Soul features melodic acoustic tracks like “Jerusalem,” a personal ode to the Holy City as well as the poignant social commentary of “Walls Tumblin Down”, the new roughneck anthem “African Reggae Fever” and the Lover’s Rock vibe of “Extraordinary Woman.”

A native Ghanaian, Dawuni is one of Africa’s most exciting artists. His unique fusion of reggae, soul and traditional African sounds and combustible live performances, combined with his social commentary and advocacy for a multitude of global causes, has brought him global recognition and resulted in collaborations with organizations including UNICEF, Product (RED) and the Carter Center.

Rocky Dawuni has participated in high-profile compilation projects with the Black Eyed Peas, Jack Johnson and Christina Aguilera, and his music has been featured on the hit series Weeds, ER and  Dexter, and in the upcoming Electronic Arts’ video game FIFA Soccer 2010.  He can also be seen/heard alongside Bono in the video and song remake of “War /No more Trouble” for the worldwide phenomenon Playing for Change: Songs Around the World CD compilation.  In addition, Rocky’s rendition of Bob Marley’s “Sun is Shining” will be featured on the upcoming Putumayo Bob Marley: World Tribute project due in early 2010.

A percentage of Hymns for the Rebel Soul’s proceeds will go to Africa Live!, a non-profit organization founded by Dawuni, whose mission is to preserve, restore, and reinvigorate the Ghanaian live music scene.

Livity is out in full force at this year’s ASR Tradeshow at the San Diego Convention Center. We posted up in the ASEC (Action Sports Environmental Coalition) Green Room, part of the floor sectioned off to promote companies and organizations in the action sports industry devoted to sustainable, environmentally and socially-sound products and business practices.

Livity’s new look and suave Spring 2010 designs are getting great responses from retailers looking to cross over into the eco-fashion market.

Issac spent part of Friday afternoon in a panel titled, “Eco-Nomics, Turning Green into $Green$.” Hosted by ASEC founder and Executive Director Frank Scura, the panel discussed the immediate need for the action sports industry to come together in “co-opetition” to bring eco-fabric suppliers and manufactuers down in price AND encourage retailers to pioneer their own GreenRoom store sections – a place where consumers can find the latest and greatest in eco-surf/skate/snow gear.

So far, two Green Rooms have been open in Hobie Surf Shops in Laguna Beach and San Clemente. Both have received tremendous positive response from consumers and store-owners! Livity products are sold in both stores, so be sure to support and lobby for a Green Room in your local shop.

A yachting competition across the Pacific led veteran seafarer Charles Moore to discover what some have since deemed the world’s largest “landfill” — actually a huge water-bound swath of floating plastic garbage the size of two Texases. Trapped in an enormous slow whirlpool called the Pacific Gyre, a mostly stagnant, plankton-rich seascape spun of massive competing air currents, this Great Pacific Garbage Patch in some places outweighs even the surface waters’ biomass six-to-one.

Moore said after his return voyage, “There were shampoo caps and soap bottles and plastic bags and fishing floats as far as I could see. Here I was in the middle of the ocean, and there was nowhere I could go to avoid the plastic.”

Since his discovery, Moore has been analyzing the giant litter patch and its disastrous effects on ocean life. Through the Algalita Marine Research Foundation, he hopes to raise awareness about the problem and find ways to restrict its growth. He’s now leading several expeditions to sample plastic fragments across thousands of miles of the Pacific.

Unfortunately, hemp is illegal to grow in the US, even though industrial hemp is drastically different from the plant that gets you high. Livity is pushing the legalization of industrial hemp in the US, hoping to benefit from this super plant domestically. But for now, we get our hemp from family farms in Northeast China. Those families contribute to a government-run co-op that collects and pays for fiber stock. Then our hemp goes to one of the world’s best hemp mills, also in Northeastern China, in a region that has been cultivating and processing hemp for textile use for thousands of years. Our mill is checked and approved several times every year by third party agencies for the highest standard of labor conditions and environmental processes. It’s an important goal of ours to ensure our sourcing is benefitting the local economy without harming the local environment.

· Hemp has been used to make everything from rope to clothing, to paper since 770 AD.
